History
Hotel – Restaurant „VARIA” came into existence from modernized historic building where on the middle of centuries was a gas-works. Because of placing the building in the list of relics and supervising by the relics conservator the shape of the building as well as the façade from red brick stayed untouched. The indoor has been modernly adapted. The building draft was designed by Berliner company – “Berlin – Anhaltische Maschinenbau Action – Geselschaft”.
The building of Hotel – Restaurant „VARIA” is from 1903 when it existed as a part of the town gas-works company, which in it previous version consisted of the main building, the gasholder and the residential – office building. The gas-works in the moment of beginning, in 1903, lighted 99 light points in the area of the whole town. In 1911 in relation to growing demand of gas it was proceed to expansion and modernization of the company. During the II world war the company was overtaken by the invader and totally devastated. Then it came to its reconstruction and in 1945 the gas production was resumed since the half of a 1974 In that time the natural gas was brought to the town and the town gas-works became unnecessary. Out of production it got ruined.
In 1993 the production building, the only part of the gas-works which stayed in it outdoor form, was bought by it recent owner in a ruin – without doors, windows and with tones of gas’ tar in the underground reservoirs. It needed a lot of commitment, determination and first of all the owner’s imagination to make it a renovated, decorated the town buildings, devoted to hotel & gastronomy building for tourists and town inhabitants.
The building was brought to use and under the conservator of relics supervision it was adapted for hotel & gastronomy building. It has set afloat in 1997 as a Remedial – Training Centre “VARIA” with a hotel & gastronomy function. Since 2002 the company is functioning separate as a civil company and in its recent name.
The name “VARIA” comes from the Latin word – ‘varius’ which means the adjective – various, versatile, colorful, glittering. This definition fully reflects the character of the building, as well as its ambience.
